Welcome

Hello,

Lovely to have you here! Thanks for the work you did on the Rothwell Empire Cinema. It's looking good.

I made a few changes that I thought you might like an explanation for:

  • Images. I had to remove and replace some of the images because of copyright reasons. The best place to get images from is Wikimedia Commons. You don't even have to upload them. If you copy the title of the image e.g. "File:Blackburn Hall - geograph.org.uk - 1294341.jpg" and paste it into the search for media bit, it should pop up. Failing that, you can go to Leodis and find any images with 'Copyright:Leeds Libraries' in the description. They've given us permission to use those images.
  • Image in the infobox. I can't find any good old images of the Empire and I thought the tram one was a bit too small to see, especially if people are reading on their mobiles. So I replaced it with the Blackburn Hall one. Hopefully, we find a copyright free old one.
  • Closed date. I read the stuff on Cinema Treasures and then found some more info in newspapers and year books, which suggested that the cinema had only closed temporarily in 1932 and that it was still open in at least 1933. Some of the info on there seems a bit sketchy and I couldn't find much to back it up. But I've kept most of it anyway.
  • Changed the title. There was another Empire Cinema (run by the same company I found out) in Outwood so I changed it to Rothwell Empire Cinema to make it clearer.

I did some general tidying up too, but nothing major. Thanks again for being here. Glad someone is helping out:)

I've created a page called the Manual of Style, which takes the page from Wikipedia. Thought it'd be good to have now that there's more than me! I think things should be a lot looser here but it's nice to have something to work toward. Rothwell (talk) 12:45, 31 May 2024 (BST)Reply[reply]
